Fans of science fiction will be familiar with Gorvenair Smith, whose short stories are all set in the coherent universe of the Lords of Instrumentality.

The planet Shayol is a penal planet where the condemned are exposed to the care of micro-organisms, the dromozoa. While taking care of them, the dromozoans grow all sorts of extra organs... so you can end up with 25 noses!

Once the organs have matured, they are cut up and transported to other planets to cure those living elsewhere.

A friend of mine gave me the stump of his Mirabelle tree, this is what it inspired me to do!
