Originally from the North of France, Anne Millot is a doctoral student in geography and a sailor. On her sailboat of just under eight metres, she often embarks alone. In a series of posts, she shares her journey.

I'm in the South Finistère. Let's go! Let's cast off the kelp-filled mooring lines. Hoist the sails! The wind rushes in... The sailing can begin. I am all ears, in fact all senses on the alert. The weather is fine and fresh. Time passes and the scents of the sea intoxicate me.

In the mist I detect the approach of an island in a kind of tepidness. The smell of vegetation and seaweed is abundant. At this time, it is low tide, with a high tidal range. Next time, I will tell about my fishing trips in this magical cove. Some surprises, too.
