The museum of neo-classical paintings is a tribute to Anne-Louis Girodet-Trioson, painter born in Montargis in 1767.
Montargis is also the city which saw the birth of praslines. The court of King Louis XIII was very fond of these delicacies created by the officer of mouth of the Marshal Duke of Praslin. He retired to Montargis where he founded the house of the prasline.
Another curiosity, Montargis is one of the most touristic cities in France. Hordes of Chinese visit the city where Deng Xiaoping studied and created the Chinese Communist Party around 1920.
The Scandibérique, a bicycle route linking Norway to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, passes through Montargis along the Briare canal. On this canal, a marina is under construction.
